5 Football players playing poker

  • by

We love sports betting, but we also like playing poker with the folks. There are 2 things that we love in this game. When you are playing poker you should be with a good sense of control over the risk and you need to estimate your level of skill against your opponent. If you think about it it’s quite the same in sports betting.

The history of the game is something that we also admire. With the time the players invented some poker terms with an interesting background. Let’s take the term Dead Man’s Hand for example. Back in 1876 on 2nd August a murderer named Jack McCall walked into Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon #10 and point-blank shot Wild Bill Hickok in the head while Hickok was playing at the poker table.

The hand that he was holding was two pair of black aces and black eights while the 5th card is still unknown. Nowadays players are using the term dead man’s hand when they have a pair of black aces with a pair of black eights. There are other poker terms with similar history out there, but now let’s speak about football.

We’ve seen many football players on the poker tables on cash games and big tournaments. Players like Ronaldo and Neymar even joined in some commercial poker videos. We made a short-list of our favourites football players that we’ve seen playing poker:

1. Gerard Pique

Barcelona’s defender has won many trophies with his club and the national team of Spain. When he’s off the pitch he likes to sit on the tables. Pique recently won €352,950 finishing on 2nd place at EPT Barcelona €25,000 Single-Day High Roller. The defender also managed to win $56,000 in the European Poker Tour so he deserves the 1st spot in our list.

2. Teddy Sheringham

Sheringham is a well-known player by many Premier League’s fans. He used to play for teams like Tottenham, West Ham and Manchester United. The Red Devils will always remember his Champions League contribution in season 1998-1999 where Man United made a treble. According to The Hendon Mob as a poker player, Teddy Sheringham has $329,475 total live earnings.

Here we are talking about the Brazilian fenômeno – Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. One of the best strikers of his time. You might also remember him with his great goals and weird haircuts. We saw Ronaldo at Day 1 of the EPT Grand Final Main Event back in 2016 playing for an hour. A year before that at PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas the striker finished 26th in the Main Event out of 900 players.

4.Luis Suarez

One more player currently playing for Barcelona goes in the list. Luis Suarez is a great striker which he proved playing for Ajax and Liverpool. In England, he got the nickname The Vampire after biting an opponent for 2nd time. Back in 2014, Suarez joined in 888 Team Pro but this last only for a month due to the bitting issues. He hasn’t made any big achievements on the tables.

5. Neymar Jr

Neymar has also played for Barcelona so we can say that they like gambling in this team. Currently, he is playing for PSG but there are a lot of transfer rumours. Despite football, Neymar is involved in different businesses. You can see him often in commercials and he was taking apart even in Avengers.  Last year he finished 6th in BSOP High Roller winning total $21,470. He loves playing high stake poker and he mentioned that he is considering becoming a pro after the end of his football career.

There are more football players out there and we wish them good luck at the tables. And if you are in betting mood check out our both teams to score tips.
