Atletico Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen – Champions League – Group D
Atletico Madrid are experiencing some hard times lately, especially in La Liga. Their last win in the local competition was back in September when they defeated Mallorca with 2-0.
In Champions League, they started well enough. Diego Simeone’s men won 4 points from their first 2 matches, as they defeated Lokomotiv Moscow and made a draw with the Italian giants from Juventus.
Atleti conceded a goal in their last 2 matches in La Liga and Champions League, but this time the opponent is not that dangerous. A clean sheet here won’t be a surprise and will remind their fans of their solid defense.
Leverkusen will step into this match in a bad mood. They suffered a heavy defeat against Frankfurt in the last round of the Bundesliga. They conceded 3 and failed to score any.
In their Group D, they are performing even worse. They lost their 2 matches so far – 1-2 against Lokomotiv Moscow at home and 0-3 in Turin versus Juventus. Their chances to qualify for the 1/8 finals seem very unrealistic.
This season Bayer suffered some big defeats away from home. They lost with 4-0 and 3-0 in the Bundesliga. This time the opponent is a serious name with plenty of players who know how to defend.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Dinamo Zagreb – Champions League – Group C
Another interesting encounter is the game between Shakhtar and Dinamo Zagreb. Both teams are in the battle for the second spot in the group and both of them suffered a defeat against the group leaders Man City.
Shakhtar Donetsk are playing with confidence in the Ukranian championship. They are in a unique run of form, as they won every single match in the Ukrainian Premier League since 31st July – 11 consecutive wins. On the 1st of October, they defeated Atalanta in the Champions League in Italy, which keeps them in the battle.
Although it looks pretty easy for the Ukrainians to win matches in the Premier League, they conceded 3 goals at home from Zorya in September. It was one of their toughest games for the season. It seems like that against tougher opponents, Shakhtar Donetsk are facing some issues when it comes to defending.
Dinamo Zagreb are leading the race in Croatia 1. HNL. They have the best defense alongside Hajduk with 6 goals conceded.
The team from Zagreb is not convincing when have to play away from home. In the league, they lost twice since the 31st of August – to Hajduk and Varazdin. On both occasions, they failed to score.
In Champions League things are looking good for Dinamo. After the convincing 4-0 victory over Atalanta in the opening round, the team was expectedly beaten by the English champions Man City on Etihad.
We expect a tight match between the two sides with goals in both nets. Our concerns are if the visiting team would be able to find the net. Shakhtar’s attacking mentality is well-known, so we are looking for goals here.

Juventus vs Lokomotiv Moscow – Champions League – Group C
Juventus will face Lokomotiv Moscow in an easy encounter, at least on paper. The Italian champions are on top of Group D with 4 points and better stats than Atletico Madrid.
The Bianconeri failed to get all the 3 points in Serie A just once since the start of the season. It was against Fiorentina in the middle of September. At home, Juve won all 4 games in the Serie A, including one with Napoli with 4-3. A worrying fact for Maurizio Sarri is that his team managed to keep a clean sheet only once.
Sarri won’t be able to use the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Douglas Costa, Mattia De Sciglio and Marko Pjaca due to injuries. Emre Can is illegible to take park in the Champions League due to Maurizio Sarri’s decision.
Lokomotiv Moscow are playing better than expected in the Champions League. After the first two matches, the Russian side has 3 points after an away victory in Leverkusen with 2-1.
The team from Moscow is in a very good run of form in the Russian Premier League. They have won their last 5 matches home and away, including a home victory over the defending champions Zenit. In those 5 encounters, Yuri Semin’s men kept a clean sheet in 3 occasions.
The difference now is that Lokomotiv is going to face a much tougher side than the ones in the Premier League. Juventus still have world-class defenders, despite the fact they still concede goals. The 3 points are a must for the Bianconeri and we expect them to deliver with a clean sheet.
