Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been appointed as a permanent manager of Manchester United signing a three-year contract on Thursday. Cehck out what we he recently wrote about his record here. He has labeled the job as his “ultimate dream” and staying on the wheel beyond this season was unthinkable just a few months ago. However, 14 wins in 19 games were among the reasons behind his appointment. Manchester United was always about winning football matches, playing attacking football and promoting young players, so we will analyze how Ole implemented these principals in order to deserve his chance at the helm.
Jose Mourinho has moaned about the lack of transfers for months in his last season but Ole has succeeded where his predecessor failed – he has managed to improve his current squad. The majority of the players have performed significantly better since the Portuguese was sacked in December. The positive approach of the new manager was a key element in the upturn of form of the key United players. Pogba has flourished under the Norwegian while Rashford is playing up to his potential. Instead of publicly criticizing his players, Ole has made them believe that United are more than capable to beat any team. The support of the manager has resulted in great wins on the field.
The attractive football is in the DNA of Manchester United. However, the flair was replaced by more cautious and dull performances since the retirement of Alex Ferguson. The fans at Old Trafford demand a certain style of football and Ole was more than happy to bring them back the joy of watching their team. United are not afraid to take risks, press high and play with high tempo. The attacking players have been given the freedom to express themselves, swap positions and take on the opposition defenders. The supporters are now looking forward to the games with excitement.

A lot of pundits doubted about the tactical knowledge of Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He has proved that knows how to set up his team in big teams. United has kept their positions when needed and waited for their chances to hurt superior team with their counter quick counter attacks. At the same time, they haven’t looked vulnerable in defense as earlier at the season. Their “never give up” mentality helped them to achieve one of their most memorable wins in Europe against PSG.
Giving young players a chance
Promoting youth was always in United’s culture, so a couple of young players have made debuts under the Norwegian. Moreover, some of them have been thrown at Parc des Princes when the Red Devils were looking for a comeback. That shows that Solskjær is not scared to rely on inexperienced team members when matters the most. He is expected to keep supporting homegrown players and integrating them in the first team.
Despite the great improvement since Ole took over the role as a caretaker, he has still a lot of work to do. United’s season appeared to be over in December but now they are fighting for a position in top 4 and will face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final. Even if the Baby Faced assassin doesn’t manage to bring glory this season, he is heading to a crucial transfer summer – his ability on the market is yet to be proven. Lastly, the Norwegian still needs to take the best out of the highest earner in the team – Alexis. Solskjær will be judged differently by the media since being appointed as permanent managed but his achievements so far can’t be denied.
